Abu Dhabi is set to revolutionize urban transportation by introducing flying taxis in the coming months. In collaboration with U.S.-based Archer Aviation, the city plans to launch a fleet of electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, aiming to commence operations by late 2025. These aircraft, specifically the Midnight model, are designed to carry up to four passengers and a pilot, offering a sustainable and efficient alternative to traditional ground transportation.
The introduction of these flying taxis is expected to significantly reduce travel times across the city. For instance, commutes that typically take 60 to 90 minutes by car could be transformed into 10 to 20-minute flights, enhancing mobility and reducing congestion. The UAE’s General Civil Aviation Authority is actively working on establishing the necessary regulatory framework to certify Archer’s Midnight aircraft and approve commercial air taxi operations by the first quarter of 2026.
