Dubai RTA launches 5‑tunnel, 3‑lane overhaul of Al Wasl Road to cut travel time by over 70%
Dubai’s Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) has unveiled a transformative 15 km redevelopment of Al Wasl Road, stretching from Umm Suqeim Street to 2nd December Street. The initiative widens the highway to three lanes each way, reconstructs six key intersections, and adds five tunnels spanning a total 3.85 km. Once completed, the upgrades are projected to slash journey times from 9.4 to just 2.8 minutes, boosting capacity from 8,000 to 12,000 vehicles per hour per direction.
Enhanced mobility meets urban livability with bike paths, walkways & smart design
Led by RTA Director‑General Mattar Al Tayer, this project is part of Dubai’s wider road‑network master plan to address population growth and urban density. It not only enhances traffic flow but also integrates dedicated cycling lanes, landscaped pedestrian walkways, and vibrant urban boulevards, promoting a people‑centric cityscape across high‑density zones like Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim
